San Ramon Valley High School has six choirs in the vocal music program. The Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Treble Clef Choir have all won the Golden State Choral Competiton numerous times.
MEN’S ENSEMBLE
This entry-level men’s choir introduces male singers to various types of music that they will experience in the choir program, and prepares them to enroll in Concert Choir the following year. These singers learn the basics and fundamentals of good singing while working with a group of other committed men. The literature covered includes classical, folksong, pop, jazz and barbershop. Men’s Ensemble sings at all regular concerts by themselves, with the Women’s Ensemble and in our large combined numbers.
WOMEN’S ENSEMBLE
This choir is open to all women who desire to sing and learn the basics of musicianship. This non-audition course is open to singers of all grade levels. The literature covered includes music from many time periods and styles. Women’s Ensemble prepares beginning female singers to enroll in either Treble Clef or Concert Choir. Women’s Ensemble sings at all of our regular concerts by themselves, with the Men’s Ensemble and in our large combined numbers.
TREBLE CLEF
This class is an intermediate to advanced choir that helps to further develop the growing female voice. The Treble Clef won the California Golden State Choral Competition in 2006 and 2009. They were also featured at the Western Division ACDA Conference in Tucson, Arizona (2009). Treble Clef usually takes an annual spring tour, having visited many US cities, including Anchorage, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.
CONCERT CHOIR
This chorus features 80+ singers and often has a ratio of nearly 50% men! They have been the winners of the California Golden State Choral Competition four times and they were featured at the Western Division ACDA Conference in Anaheim (2008). Touring is an important part of the program and in past years the choir has ventured to places like Costa Rica, New York City, Chicago and Savannah.
CHAMBER SINGERS
This choir is the advanced ensemble at SRVHS. All members of the Chamber Singers are concurrently enrolled in the Concert Choir. This course is designed for the talented vocalist interested in the study and performance of chamber music, with an emphasis on the music of the Renaissance, contemporary, and vocal jazz. There is a strong focus on commitment since the group frequently performs at concerts and for local clubs and organizations.
JAZZ VOCAL ENSEMBLE
This audition-only choir isn’t part of the daily curriculum at SRVHS, they meet on their own at lunchtime and during evening rehearsals. Their repertoire is completely jazz and pop selections and they usually perform on solo microphones.
