About the Director
Ken Abrams has been the choral director at SRVHS since 1984. He is a graduate of California State University, Hayward, where he majored in vocal performance and graduated with honors. He received his Master’s Degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois in 1990. The SRVHS choirs are noted for their commitment to excellence and by their outstanding ranking at competitions and festivals and have won many first place awards at the Northern California Golden State Choral Competition. Most recently, the SRVHS Concert Choir won first place at the 2016 competition.
Mr. Abrams was selected as "Teacher Of The Year" for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District in 1996, at San Ramon Valley High School in 2002 and for by the Danville Chamber of Commerce in 2006. He was also awarded Volunteer of the Year for the town of Danville in 2007.
Touring is an important component of their curriculum. This year, the SRVHS Concert Choir is planning a “Repair and Rebuild” Humanitarian tour to Houston, TX. The choir has also made seven international tours -- Central Europe, the British Isles and Australia/New Zealand, Spain, the Baltics with Russia, Costa Rica and Italy with Slovenia and Croatia. The latter trip featured a performance at the Vatican and a mass at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice.
In addition to his duties at San Ramon Valley High School, Mr. Abrams is also the Artistic Director of the Danville Girls Chorus, a community children’s chorus with over one hundred and fifty singers, for the past twenty-five years. He is the past-president of the California chapter of the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA)and he currently serves as the High School Representative for the ACDA Western Division Region (California, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah and Arizona).
