Chamber Singers is the advanced ensemble at SRVHS. All members of the Chamber Singers are concurrently enrolled in the Concert Choir. This course is designed for the talented vocalist interested in the study and performance of chamber music, with an emphasis on the music of the Renaissance, contemporary, and vocal jazz. There is a strong focus on commitment since the group frequently performs at concerts and for local clubs and organizations. Chamber Singers have won the California Golden State Small Choir competition four times, recently in 2019.
Concert Choir features 60 advanced singers, mostly juniors and seniors. They have been the winners of the California Golden State Choral Competition six times, most recently in 2016. They were also featured at the Western Division ACDA Conference in Anaheim (2008). Touring is an important part of the program and in past years the choir has ventured to places like Russia and the Baltics, Costa Rica, New York City, Chicago, Italy and Venice. They have been lucky enough to perform at the Vatican and Saint Mark’s Basilica.
Treble Clef is an intermediate to advanced choir that helps to further develop the growing female voice. The Treble Clef were first place winners at the California Golden State Choral Competition in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2009 and 2005. They were also featured at the Western Division ACDA Conference in Tucson, Arizona (2009). Treble Clef takes an annual spring tour and has visited many US cities including: Anchorage, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Nashville, Memphis and Washington D.C.
This advanced, audition-only choir isn’t part of the daily curriculum at SRVHS. These singers meet on their own at lunchtime and at evening rehearsals. Their repertoire is completely jazz and pop selections and they perform on solo microphones. Singers in the Jazz Vocal Ensemble must also be enrolled in the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir.
Men’s Ensemble is an entry-level men’s choir introducing male singers to various types of music and prepares them to enroll in Concert Choir the following year. These singers learn the basics and fundamentals of good singing while working with a group of other committed men. Genres include classical, folksong, pop, jazz and barbershop.
